This workshop will introduce you to the world of audio-visual performance using the Touchdesigner software. Touchdesigner is fast becoming the industry standard for creating real time visuals in musical and artistic practice, and this is a great first set for those interested. If you’ve ever been to a concert that had visuals chances are they were made with Touchdesigner, so now is your chance to learn how they are made!

In the workshop you will be introduced to the software, then follow along as we create a 3D object that will react, move and change based on any audio source it is given. There will be lots of room for customisation and you can use any audio source you choose (recorded or live) so you will end up with a unique audio reactive artwork! We will also look at post processing, optimisation and exporting techniques.

Touchdesigner offers a fully featured free version and will run on nearly all laptops. It is also a node based environment so no knowledge of coding is required! All you need to do is bring yourself, a laptop and some sounds you want to be visualised!!!

Note: This course does not require any previous experience or knowledge of coding, 3d graphics or audio tech. Any level of experience in these fields is beneficial but absolutely not essential.

Facilitator Bio: The workshop will be led by James GM, a professional audio-visual artist and educator at UAL-CCI. With over 5 years experience as a TouchDesigner developer, his work has been featured at Corsica Studios, The Science Museum and Bluedot Festival. He is currently the creative visual director for The Radiophonic Workshop. You can find more of his work on Instagram @james_gm_101
